Romania presents a startling picture of what is to survive the extreme oppression of communism. There are noticeable similarities between the city of Bucharest and Moscow (a trip taken in 1996). Graffiti and impoverished living conditions catch the visitor’s eye, yet an overwhelming attitude of hope and optimism prevail in the hearts and minds of the people.

ReplyDeleteIt is funny - Romania is what you make of it. Sure Bucharest is a really scary place if you don't know what you are doing, and lots of parts of it, that I would not go, but the rest of Romania is a completely different country, and full of wonderfully warm people.
